|Lying in bed, when I should be on the road. Can I go home? Where is this magical p-lace, ‘home’?|
I am supposed to already be on the road, heading north, to Pretoria and my 20th school reunion. I worked at the office until well after midnight – why? Not just because I had a lot of things to finish, but also because I was distracting myself from thinking about all the things this journey meant for me.
They say you can’t go home – is that true?
Anyway, it doesn’t matter just yet, because what IS blindingly obvious, is that 20 years after leaving school, I am not as energetic as I used to be – I can’t hit the road for the 1,600km trip just yet – I am exhausted. Perhaps a bit later in the day.
Yeah. Tomorrow. That’s a good day for new plans, and big journeys to start.
Tomorrow never comes.
