The worst prisons, are the self-imposed ones…

It is the end of the world…excuse me…The End of the World, though it seems this version is not marked by the panic and stock-piling that earlier world-ending events, like the Y2K bug, caused.

For my own reasons, I am locked in a self-made prison today, introspection and sunburn my only companions. I break away to have lunch with Maru, and discover in her her love of philosophical debate. It is magical moment, as we share lunch at Mila’s, in Stellenbosch, because so many of people told me my dad used to love sitting and talking about the philosophy of life, and mull over the deeper meaning of it all. It’s clear that Maru yearns to spend more time doing this. I resolve to engage her more often in these discussions, when we are back at work.
