Day 8: MUST I Eat…?

A fever kept me in bed all day. Inert and for the most part asleep.

I ate three small meals. I never remember if it’s “starve a cold, feed a fever” or “feed a cold, starve a fever”, so I just feed both. That’s been my answer to a lot of things in life, these past few years.

I ate these three small meals and now I feel like I over-ate. Hmm.

So…my question is…MUST I eat three times a day? What if I feel full? I know the human body can go for several days without food; it’s water that is more critical. Not that I’m planning on going for days without food…but surely I can skip a few meals, if I ‘m feeling full?

If I strip out the emotion from eating – if I remove all the ritual and norms, and just listen to what my body says, I’m pretty certain I will eat much smaller portions at larger intervals, like only once or twice a day.

I think this needs thinking about.

  1. Hey Davey, You are doing REALLY great so far. Well done and keep it up.

It’s feed a cold and starve a fever, If you are feverish your body sort of ‘shuts down’ and doesn’t want to waste energy digesting.

Obviously don’t go from one extreme to the other and become obsessive and start starving yourself and get anorexic… but other than that (which presumably you know is the other spectrum of emotional related food issues??) it’s fine and good to listen to your body. If you are not hungry it is fine to skip a meal. Once you get back in balance and in tune you’ll reset yourself and your body will tell you when you are hungry and when you are full and it will look after itself.

Always have the intention of nurturing yourself, loving yourself and being kind to (not punishing) yourself.

But yes sometimes when you are not well your body wants a break. It’s ok to give it time and space to heal itself without over loading it.

You’ll also notice the more active you are the more your appetite will fire up and if you are inert (like when sick) it will die down again. It’s a very clever thing when it’s working as it should!!!

    xxxxxx
